VOTING FOR OFFICERS
Pursuant to our Bylaws, a vote will be taken at this meeting to fill the offices of Seneschal, Chatelaine, and Minister of Arts & Sciences for the 2020-2021 term.

CAN’T MAKE THE MEETING IN PERSON?
Submit your vote by Absentee Ballot before the meeting starts.

POTLUCK SOCIAL (at 12-Noon)
Ellie says we have the space for the day so, how’s about a POTLUCK at 12p at Iron Hill Museum? Bring whatever is easy and tasty! Want to grab a veggie platter at the grocery store? Sure! Bagels and cream cheese? We’ll eat ’em! Maybe a crockpot of something yummy? Whatever floats your boat.

Please comment on the Shire Facebook event thread if you’d like to bring something, what you’re bringing. There are no stoves/ovens, but there are plenty of outlets for crockpots. Drinks are welcome too!  (We’re good on plates and flatware, thank you!)

2020-21 Officer Candidates

Pursuant to the Bylaws of Caer Adamant, Letters of Intent for the offices of Seneschal, Chatelaine, Minister of A&S, Chronicler and Captain of the Archers for the 2020-2021 terms were accepted up to the January business meeting and are now closed.

Candidates for office include:

  • Seneschal:  Lady Aoife inghean Donnchaidh
  • Chatelaine:  Lady Laurena Mouchot offers to continue to hold the position; however, is looking for someone to assume the role.
  • Minister of A&S:  Lady Iriniia Mieszkowna
  • Chronicler:  A vote of the members in January, 2020 suspended this office.
  • Captain of the Archers:  A vote of the members in January, 2020 suspended this office.

Officer elections will occur during the February business meeting via closed ballot. The winner will be that candidate who receives a simple majority of the votes cast. Should the Populace vote to reject all of the candidates for a position, and that position is required by East Kingdom Law or Corpora, the process of holding a new election will begin immediately. In the interim, the Seneschal will make provisions for the performance of any duties of the office required.

Dec. 21 Yule in the Shire

It’s the joyous time of year when we come together to celebrate the ending of the old and the beginning of the new. Join the Shire of Caer Adamant at the beautiful and evocative Greenbank Mills (Wilmington, Delaware) for good cheer, a bite to eat, and maybe a few other little traditions of the seasons. Since this falls on the actual Winter Solstice (11:19 pm in our hemisphere) we will try to have some traditional celebrations such as a bonfire and other outdoor activities, weather permitting.

If you wish to help decorate the Mill or want to help with things to do during the evening, please send Lady Dionise O’Towie (Denise Setchko) an IM to volunteer or with ideas.

NOTE:  The small parking lot directly in front of the Mill is reserved to accommodate those with accessibility/mobility needs.  Those who do not require accessibility/mobility accommodation are asked to park in the lot next door.  We will have folks on site to guide you.

POTLUCK FEAST
Please contribute to the potluck feast and bring your own beverage (and some to share if you are so inclined!) Also, bring your own feast gear and drinking vessels.

  • Yes, there are outlets for crock-pots.
  • No, there is no kitchen, oven, stove or refrigerator. Plan accordingly.
  • Please bring serving spoons, carving knives and so on (labeled with your name)
  • Please list all ingredients so those with dietary restrictions can be aware.

Parking
There’s plenty of free, on-site parking.  Use the main parking lot at the mill building, which has about 10 parking spaces (leave the 2 closest to the side of the mill for their tenants).  An auxiliary parking lot is located just east of the site, has space for about 50 vehicles and provides a scenic walk across Red Clay Creek to access the site and mill.

Call for Officer Candidates

Pursuant to the Bylaws of Caer Adamant, the offices of Exchequer, Knight Marshal and Herald for the 2019-2020 terms are now open.

  • Letters of intent must be received by the Seneschal prior to the scheduled start of the January business meeting. Letters of intent should include: member’s modern name; SCA name, if applicable; membership number and expiration date and a few lines describing the request.
  • Candidates will be announced at the January business meeting as well as the Shire web site.
  • Between the January and February business meetings the candidates may submit a statement detailing their qualifications, reason(s) for seeking office and goals for his or her time in office. Responses will be combined and posted to the Shire web site and shared on our FB page.
  • A ballot will be posted to the Shire web page and paper ballots will be available at the February business meeting. Absentee ballots must be received by the Seneschal prior to the February business meeting and included in the tally provided all proofs required by the Bylaws are met. Anyone 14 years or older with valid membership has the right to vote.
  • Officer elections will be via closed ballot during the February business meeting. The winner will be that candidate who receives a simple majority of the votes cast. We’ll have our meeting at 10:00 then go for Chinese buffet for lunch after and that will provide opportunity for folks to get to fight practice or thrown weapons if that is on the calendar for that day.
