June 17 Demo: Volunteers Needed for Dover Comic Con

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Greetings! We need your help with the DEMO at the Dover Comic Con!

This public event is a great opportunity to talk with people about the SCA and encourage them to join in the fun! The Shire will have a presence where, with your help, we hope to be able to recruit new members by demoing Fighting and showcasing Arts & Sciences with displays and demonstrations.

WHEN
Saturday, June 17th, 2023

We’re looking for volunteers:
–HELPERS for Set Up (7:00-9:30 AM)
–FIGHTERS
–A&S DEMONSTRATORS
–GREETERS & people in garb
–HELPERS for Breakdown (4:00 PM)

WHERE (updated June 6th)
We have been assigned a space on corner of Legislative Mall (at the intersection of Federal Street and M.L.K. Jr Blvd S), Dover, DE.

WHAT TO BRING
Demo Autocrat Lord Malcolm plans to bring a few pop-ups to provide shade.  Everyone should plan to bring their own seating and small tables for displaying fight equipment and armor and A&S activities (along with their own snacks, drinks, and whatever else might be needed to be comfortable).  The event is free to attend and there’s plenty of free parking.

Although the SCA complies with all applicable laws to ensure the health and safety of our event participants, we cannot eliminate the risk of exposure to infectious diseases during in-person events. By participating in the in-person events of the SCA, you acknowledge and accept the potential risks. You agree to take any additional steps to protect your own health and safety and those under your control as you believe to be necessary.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
This public event is a great opportunity to talk with people about the SCA and encourage them to join in the fun! The Shire will have a booth where, with your help, we hope to be able to: demo Fighting and Fencing, host a Dance lesson, and have Arts & Sciences displays and demonstrations.

So, we’re looking for volunteers:
–Fighters, Fencers and Dancers
–Helpers for Set Up (7:00-9:30 AM)
–Helpers for Breakdown (after 4:00 PM)
–A&S Demonstrations (can be rotated throughout the day)
–Greeters & people in garb with stories about the SCA to share

WHEN
Saturday, June 18th (open to the public from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm)

WHERE
We have been assigned Booth #70, which is near the food trucks in a shady corner of Legislative Mall, Dover, DE (at the corner of Federal Street and MLK Jr. Blvd adjacent to the food trucks).

WHAT TO BRING
Demo Autocrat Lord Malcolm plans to bring a few pop-ups to provide shade and we’ll have a pop-up, table and two chairs for the A&S demos.  Everyone should plan to bring their own seating, small tables for displaying weapons and armor, drinks, snacks and whatever else might be needed to be comfortable.  The event is free to attend and there’s plenty of free parking.

May 25 – Demo for Newark Charter School

THEY WANT US BACK!!
The N Charter School 5th grade has resumed Ye Olde Renaissance Night program (an evening set in the 1400s) and would love for us to participate again this year with display stations and a brief fighting demo.

WE NEED YOU
–A&S displays (bring your own table & chairs, disinfectant wipes, water, snacks, etc.)
–Garb of all sorts
–Fighters who want to have some fun (bring your own water, etc.)

WHEN
Wed., May 25, 2022, 5:00 – 8:30 PM

WHERE
This event has closed

THIS YEAR
Weather permitting, the school will hold the event OUTSIDE, under tents
     If we’re outside, masks are not required.
     If we’re inside, masks are required.
Either way, we’ll need proof of vaccination and/or negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of the event.

SCHEDULE
Last time the schedule went like this:

5:00 – 6:00 We set up in the gym and garbed up (school bathrooms are open to us)
6:00 – 6:30 Students moved through stations (archery, armor, take pictures)
6:30 – 7:00 Students moved through the buffet line and ate while music played
7:00 – 7:15 An outside group performed/showcased their talents
7:15 – 7:55 OUR FIGHT DEMO!
7:55 – 8:00 Closing remarks
