June 17 Demo: Volunteers Needed for Dover Comic Con

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Greetings! We need your help with the DEMO at the Dover Comic Con!

This public event is a great opportunity to talk with people about the SCA and encourage them to join in the fun! The Shire will have a presence where, with your help, we hope to be able to recruit new members by demoing Fighting and showcasing Arts & Sciences with displays and demonstrations.

WHEN
Saturday, June 17th, 2023

We’re looking for volunteers:
–HELPERS for Set Up (7:00-9:30 AM)
–FIGHTERS
–A&S DEMONSTRATORS
–GREETERS & people in garb
–HELPERS for Breakdown (4:00 PM)

We have been assigned a space on corner of Legislative Mall (at the intersection of Federal Street and M.L.K. Jr Blvd S), Dover, DE.

WHAT TO BRING
Demo Autocrat Lord Malcolm plans to bring a few pop-ups to provide shade.  Everyone should plan to bring their own seating and small tables for displaying fight equipment and armor and A&S activities (along with their own snacks, drinks, and whatever else might be needed to be comfortable).  The event is free to attend and there’s plenty of free parking.

This public event is a great opportunity to talk with people about the SCA and encourage them to join in the fun! The Shire will have a booth where, with your help, we hope to be able to: demo Fighting and Fencing, host a Dance lesson, and have Arts & Sciences displays and demonstrations.

So, we’re looking for volunteers:
–Fighters, Fencers and Dancers
–Helpers for Set Up (7:00-9:30 AM)
–Helpers for Breakdown (after 4:00 PM)
–A&S Demonstrations (can be rotated throughout the day)
–Greeters & people in garb with stories about the SCA to share

WHEN
Saturday, June 18th (open to the public from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm)

WHERE
We have been assigned Booth #70, which is near the food trucks in a shady corner of Legislative Mall, Dover, DE (at the corner of Federal Street and MLK Jr. Blvd adjacent to the food trucks).

WHAT TO BRING
Demo Autocrat Lord Malcolm plans to bring a few pop-ups to provide shade and we’ll have a pop-up, table and two chairs for the A&S demos.  Everyone should plan to bring their own seating, small tables for displaying weapons and armor, drinks, snacks and whatever else might be needed to be comfortable.  The event is free to attend and there’s plenty of free parking.

May 25 – Demo for Newark Charter School

THEY WANT US BACK!!
The Newark Charter School 5th grade has resumed Ye Olde Renaissance Night program (an evening set in the 1400s) and would love for us to participate again this year with display stations and a brief fighting demo.

WE NEED YOU
–A&S displays (bring your own table & chairs, disinfectant wipes, water, snacks, etc.)
–Garb of all sorts
–Fighters who want to have some fun (bring your own water, etc.)

THIS YEAR
Weather permitting, the school will hold the event OUTSIDE, under tents
     If we’re outside, masks are not required.
     If we’re inside, masks are required.
Either way, we’ll need proof of vaccination and/or negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of the event.

SCHEDULE
Last time the schedule went like this:

5:00 – 6:00 We set up in the gym and garbed up (school bathrooms are open to us)
6:00 – 6:30 Students moved through stations (archery, armor, take pictures)
6:30 – 7:00 Students moved through the buffet line and ate while music played
7:00 – 7:15 An outside group performed/showcased their talents
7:15 – 7:55 OUR FIGHT DEMO!
7:55 – 8:00 Closing remarks

Aug 14 – Shire Meeting (hybrid)

MONTHLY BUSINESS MEETING

JOIN US at our August business meeting. We will be meeting in person at the Shire booth at the Dover Comic Con.  The meeting will be held at our booth at Dover Comic Con (admission to the event is free).

Come meet in person and then support other local businesses and organizations or join us virtually. Garb is not required for the meeting, but if you’d like to help represent the Shire at the event, you’re more than welcome to attend the meeting in garb.

BRING a chair, something to drink and whatever else you might need to be comfortable as it may be hot.

Sept. 22 – Demo & Fighter Practice (A&S Welcome!)

The Shire of Caer Adamant has been invited by the Town of Whitehall and Revelation Beer Garden to hold a demo in their common area. Fighters, fencers, arts and sciences all welcome for this fun day of doing what we love best!

Newark Halloween Parade

Halloween Parade
Date: Sunday, October 29, 2017
Time: 3 p.m.
Location: Main Street
Newark’s 68th annual Halloween Parade is drawing near. Plan now to be a part of this special Halloween event, complete with marching bands, floats, antique automobiles, costumed characters, and much more. The parade begins at Tyre Avenue and Main Street and marches west on Main Street, to College Avenue.
Preregistration is not necessary if: You simply wish to come in costume and walk in the parade. A special line up space will be provided. Check in at the information booth at George Read Park by 2:30 p.m. on parade day.
Note to politicians or political groups: If you wish to march in the parade, you must be in costume and preregister. We appreciate your cooperation.
Please remember that pets are not comfortable in the heat and crowds of large events, so for their safety and the safety of those attending the event, please leave your pets at home.
There is no rain-date for this event, for cancellation information, please call (302) 366-7147.
Local clubs, civic groups, school bands, PTA’s and scout troops are encouraged to participate. See below for additional information on participation or call 366-7000.
Road Closures
Please note the following road closures during the event:
Main Street (Library Avenue to North College)
Tyre Avenue / Delaware Circle
Delaware Avenue (Chapel Street to Library Avenue)
Parade Categories
Pre-registration is necessary for:
Marching bands or musical groups – Any marching band or musical group. High School and Junior High Marching Bands must have a minimum of 25 musicians and be pre-registered for the parade in order to qualify for a donation.
Floats – Floats will be judged on their Halloween theme, and monetary prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
Large marching group – Must include a minimum of 10 individuals with at least 2 adults (if children are 12 or under, there must be 1 adult per 5 children). Awards will be presented for the first, second,and third place.
Small / family marching group – Must have an overall theme and consist of at least 5 members and fewer than 10 members. Awards will be presented for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
Vehicles – Antique automobiles with or without costumed drivers/riders.

Dover Days Demo – 5/2/15

Come and join the Shire of Caer Adamant as we show Dover our special version of historical recreation on Saturday, May 2, 2015 during Dover Days. We will be marching in the parade and down on Legislative Mall all day demonstrating fighting and other skills. Dress in your best garb, grab your armor or craft of choice and come share The Dream. Newark Community Days Sunday September 21st!

This Weekend we have the Newark Demo.
This demo consists of a display table and a fighting display. Please bring something to work on, or a display to show during the event, and a chair.

Period displays of heraldry are truly encouraged.
