1st Annual
May 16-18, 2025
Camp Mardela
Denton, MD
As spring takes hold, the forest awakens, and the wood fills with birdsong, so too does our fair Shire emerge from its winter slumber; and we ask ourselves who among you could become one of our Shire Champions? Who has honed their skills and deserves the populous praises to be sung throughout the kingdom? To this end, we have called a gathering of the people, to spring forth and join us at the beautiful Camp Mardela for Skilled Displays, Games, Dancing, and Marshal Prowess.
Shire Champions selected at Springing Doe
–Archery Champion
–Arts & Sciences Champion
–Bardic Champion
–Thrown Weapons Champion
ARTS & SCIENCES COMPETITION
We call out to the fair artisans and crafts persons to join us and compete for A&S Champion or to display their Arts & Science projects. The A&S Competition is open theme.
Our A&S Minister THL Simona della Luna and Lady Kateline Hicch will use the East Kingdom Basic A&S Score Sheet to evaluate submissions. Submission documentation can be provided in written form, verbally, or some useful combination of the two. Works for display only do not need to be completed. Download the Basic A&S Score Sheet.
The Arts & Sciences pavilion will be open Saturday from 9 am to 10 am for set up; and active judging will occur throughout the afternoon.
Visit with the artisans (competitors and those with displays) and see their works from 10 am to 6 pm.
Get more information or make arrangements for your competition or display space by emailing THL Simona della Luna at 208972@members.eastkingdom.org and include subject line, “Springing Doe A&S Competition”.
ARCHERY TOURNAMENT
Show your Archery Skills whist you compete for the accolade of Shire Archery Champion. Perhaps you will impress our Archery MIC, Thomas Loch aka Tomaloc.
BARDIC CONTEST
Join the chorus of voices that will regale us with music and stories during our Bardic Champion contest. Our Herald, Merlin Silber, will preside. Performers of all kinds are invited to participate and help us determine the Shire of Caer Adamant’s newest Bardic Champion.
Please prepare two pieces- stories, songs, poetry, dance, or your favorite bardic art – that are period or SCA related. No documentation is required. The contest will proceed in two rounds. The first round will focus on the theme of Spring. The second round will focus on the theme of the Doe. Winner will be determined by Populous Vote.
THROWN WEAPONS TOURNAMENT
Display your deft hand with sharp objects to MIC, Baron Mikael Melrakki, during our Thrown Weapons Championship Tournament.
FENCING & HEAVY WEAPONS
Those skilled with Rapier and Heavy Weapons are welcome to knock the winter’s rust off your gear with Rapier MIC Don Melchior Kriebel and Heavy Weaons MIC Syr Sterling de la Rosa by participating in tourneys and informal bouts throughout the day.
All combat activities during this event shall be conducted in accordance with the rules of the SCA and East Kingdom.
CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES
Our fair Lady Nancy Alyn will offer a variety of games and activities to help occupy the littles at various times throughout the weekend.
