Tournament of the Fallen Stag (9th Annual)
Sunday, September 29, 2019
11:00 AM to 5:00 PM
CALL TO ARMS!
As the fall winds start to blow and the leaves of the trees begin to collect on the ground this time of year, the hunt begins to prepare for the winter. As is our tradition, the Shire of Care Adamant hunts for their new Shire Champion.
This event rounds out a Weekend of Free Events in the Shire, preceded by the Benedicta Vita Arma at Greenbank Mills in Wilmington, DE.
Come, all ye armored fighters, show your skills at arms and fending in the Ninth Annual Tournament of the Fallen Stag in the Shire of Caer Adamant on Sunday, September 29th in Newark, Delaware. Gather your weapons and arrive prepared to fight in a Bear Pit style, timed, 90-minute points tournament for official bragging rights! The tournament will be divided into two 45-minute periods with a short break in between.
TOURNAMENT ENTRY (Food Drive)
Every fighter and fencer is asked to bring one bag of unexpired, nonperishable food items for donation to the Food Bank of Delaware to gain entry into the tournament. We hope to help those whose winter stores are yet to be filled.
HEAVY COMBAT WEAPONS
Fighters will spin our WHEEL OF DOOM, courtesy of Lord Magnus Wolfhunte, to determine the weapon form(s) they charge into battle wielding. The Wheel of Doom weapon forms will be centered on the Viking period – short version, no great swords!
The Wheel of Doom could have sword and round shield, two weapons, great weapon or spear, so bring everything you own! There may be more slots for other weapons forms. Will axes show up? Broken Lances? Flailing Cats? Rats on a stick? Only Lord Magnus knows and he’s not telling – yet. Bribery might work, depending upon the bribe. No one has tried it yet…
Additional information will be posted on event website as it becomes available.
PRIZES will be awarded for:
Tournament Champion – Heavy Combat
Shire Champion – Heavy Combat
Tournament Champion – Fencing
RATTAN ARTIST COMPETITION
Artisans are encouraged to submit list legal rattan weapons of their design and making to compete for the title of Rattan Artist Champion! Submissions will be judged by a panel as to creativity, workmanship and functionality and a prize awarded.
A & S GIFT EXCHANGE
Everyone is encouraged to participate in the gift exchange! Craft a piece of period work of Arts or Sciences, the hours of work and monetary value of the gift being at your pleasure. Wrap your gift, leaving it unmarked, and placed it in the designated area during the Fallen Stag event in anticipation of an exchange during the event. The ultimate goal is for all participants to go home with something different than they made and donated and to share the love for the A & S Community and the time and effort which goes in to creating period works.
Additional A&S activities may be added (such as an Althena’s Thimble solar or Narrowork Guild discussion) to the event.
All are welcome and encouraged to watch the chivalrous efforts of the combatants and the wearing of pre-17th century garb is encouraged. The Shire will have its Gold Key (period clothing that can be borrowed, free of charge, for the day) on hand and available for those who wish to take advantage of it. Remember to bring your favorite seat!
