BOOKLET WORKSHOP
All are welcome!  Come learn basic bookbinding skills from Baroness Mari and make yourself a small booklet that you can use for class notes while you’re at Pennsic War (or any other event where you take classes).

Want to make a book at home? Download the tutorial on making a soft-covered Coptic Book (a handout from a class taught during a past Pennsic War).

WHAT TO BRING
Two options:

1) Learn the basics using a less expensive paper and cardboard booklet ($2 material fee), or

2) Make a small leather book ($12 material fee).  This book takes a bit of time and so your book may not be complete before the end of the workshop.

Note on Tools:  Neither of the material fees include the tools you need make a book.  While we’ll have a few tools to share, you might want to look into purchasing your own tools.  We suggest something like this 15 Piece Bookbinding Starter Tools Kit available from Amazon and other suppliers.

EVERY MONTH
Baroness Hedewigis hosts an A&S Night on the first Tuesday of every month starting at 7:00 pm.  Contact Baroness Hedewigis 302-239-9787 if you have trouble getting to her home, which is a red barn.  Carpooling to the site is highly encouraged.

WHEN
Sunday, June 9, 2019 from 12:00-noon to 9:00 pm.

TUNICS & TROUSERS
Join us for a simple tunic and trouser making workshop for “new to sewing” people. BTW ladies, if you make a tunic longer you have a quick and easy dress.

WHAT TO BRING
At least 3 yards of pre-washed fabric for a tunic and the same for a pair of pants (add 1 more yard for each, if you are tall).

PLUS, we’ll talk about ways to make them more interesting, like block printing, trim and more.  These simple treatments can really take your Tunics and Trousers up a notch and don’t cost much of anything at all.

INTRODUCTION TO GLASS BEADS
All are welcome!  It’s quite a bit of fun so please stop by if you’ve ever wanted to try it or have done it occasionally and want to do more.  Baroness Amarie and Lady Mairi will have a wide array of colors to use to make and leave with your very own bead(s) at the end of the evening!

Preparing for the class:

  • HAIR:  If you have hair that can (reasonably) be pulled back, please prepare to do so. We don’t want anyone getting an accidental style change!
  • SHOES:  Wear close-toed shoes.
  • CLOTHING:  Wear, if at all possible, natural fibers, and if you have loose sleeves be prepared to tie them down.  They might catch on something otherwise.
  • SAFETY GOGGLES:  If you have safety goggles and can bring them it would be appreciated, although it’s not mandatory.  We will have some to share.

A&S Workshops-South-2017

Greetings to the Shire!

There is going to be an A&S Workshop at Lady Laurena’s house on Sunday, in Magnolia, starting around 3:30 p.m. and going until the last person leaves. The address is on the Calendar.

This coming Sunday is at Lady Laurena’s. As the Sunday in two weeks time is going to be the day after the Saturday shire meeting and newcomer gathering and wiki work day, and then the Sunday is the Newark Halloween Parade, there will not be one then.

Both Lady Laurena and Lady Aoife have agreed to alternately host every other Sunday A&S Workshops. That means the first Sunday A&S Workshop at Lady Aoife’s will be Sunday, November 12, followed by Sunday, November 26, at Lady Laurena’s again.

Banner Making

Greetings Shire Mates!
We are getting close to setting up our banner making day. I’m very excited about it, how about you?
What size banner would you like? A small one the size of your outstretched arm or a larger, grander one?
Do you have a frame? If so, what size?

Please send your answers and details of your needs to Alejandro at yibachefonc@gmail.com by Thursday October 1, 2015 so I can start organizing this. Your participation is greatly appreciated. The date for banner making will be announced shortly.

Yours in Service,
Alejandro

The “Three Links in a Chain” project is sponsored by the Officers of the Shire of Caer Adamant in an effort to highlight, share and explore all the wonderful resources available online.  We choose a topic, regarding the medieval period and/or the SCA, and share three websites which we have used in our own research, game play or just think others would enjoy. Have three links to share? Comments or questions? Email Dionise O’Towie, Webminister, for more information.
