Hello
Caer Adamant! Our friends at Greenbank
Mills are seeking volunteers to help with their Folklore Friday program. If you’re willing to develop and tell local
stories, or tangentially related ones, for digital presentation as part of the
program, they want to hear from you!
While
SCA’s time period is quite a while before GBM’s period of interpretation
(1790-1830), there could be some stretch with tales or songs about
weaving/spinning, about sheep, traditional drinking songs that would have
extended into the period, tales immigrant communities may have brought with
them (thinking of Irish lore, German fairy tales and so on). By way of example, one volunteer recently
presented a session focused on folk tunes of the American Colonial Period.
If
interested in volunteering, please contact Alli Schell at
a.schell@greenbankmill.com. Alli will
walk you through things like how to introduce the program, how long it should
be, what it should look like, format and all that. Thank you!

we come together to celebrate the ending of the old and the beginning of the
new. Join the Shire of Caer Adamant at the beautiful and evocative Greenbank
Mills (Wilmington, Delaware) for good cheer, a bite to eat, and maybe a few
other little traditions of the seasons. Since this falls on the actual Winter
Solstice (11:19 pm in our hemisphere) we will try to have some traditional
celebrations such as a bonfire and other outdoor activities, weather
permitting.
If you wish to help decorate the Mill or want to help with
things to do during the evening, please send Lady Dionise O’Towie (Denise Setchko)
an IM to volunteer or with ideas.

WHEN Tuesday, December 3, 2019 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
WHERE The home of Baroness Hedewigis, 1604 Old Wilmington Road, Hockessin, DE 19707.
VIKING WHIPCORD Baroness Hedewigis will teach us how to make Viking Whipcord (with the Bobbins we made last month… or bring your own bobbins).
Viking whipcording is fun, fast, and easy way of braiding to make big, strong and decorative cords. The Vikings use heavy bobbins to control the ends of the thread, which are attached overhead firmly; and the bobbins are then manipulated to form the cord while the weight of the bobbins controls the threads and keeps tension.
ILLUMINATED BOOKMARKS Lady Mari will be teach us how to illuminate a bookmark. An illuminated manuscript is a manuscript in which the text is supplemented with decoration including initials, borders, marginalia, and miniature illustrations. Rather than an entire manuscript, we’ll illuminate a smaller piece, a bookmark!
Hope to see you all there!

QUEEN’S GOWN We have been given the opportunity to create an outfit for the Queen to wear at Queen’s Bardic Championship on February 22. Let’s showcase all the amazing work people in the Shire do and make the project a collaborative effort (a bit of inspiration shown here).
I would like to try to get everyone hands on it no matter how new
they are.
If your art is something that you might not immediately associate
with making a dress, like glass making, metal work, wood carving, or scribal… I
have ideas on ways to incorporate these types of things into the overall
project.
